vvvvorkout
Generative painting (the act of ~) with vvvv. I feel like I really have to push the boundaries of what I’m able to do with this tool and get more fluent in the stuff I know. So this is more part of my current vvvvorkout, little things and minimini-projects which I want to make much more of. Might also be interesting to see what I can cultivate out of those sketches.

some fun with projection mapping from our livingroom window and a nod towards the unknown person who seems to have picked up my habit to always carry some sticky googley eyes. These move and blink through realtime mouseinput which also can be recorded and played back on the fly.

Bits and Pieces
For the last two weeks I have been pretty much preoccupied. With stuff like… changing diapers, rocking a baby to sleep, rocking a baby to sleep again and then some more of the rocking. It’s not entirely the roses and rainbows kind of experience that I naively expected, but, holy f*ck, yes, I have become a father! And, despite it being exhausting and despite me feeling like I’m...

On Marketing
/// Came across a nice piece on Marketing Oneself today, posted via @lpvmagazine, which fittingly describes the bane of my (artistic) existence - as it seems, attested by this very blog and website you are looking at right now: Kind of like developing yourself as a brand, so when people hear your name they know what they’re getting, when they see your pictures they know they’re by...

A Line Made By Walking (1967) ”[…] there was this whole world of reality out there which had far more potential than welding metal together […]” // From the not-so-many things I got out of my study, being pointed to the works of Richard Long some time ago might be my favourite. The above one in particular really strikes a chord with me. While I am not too crazy about his...

got myself a Kinect for a couple of days. Turns out to be an immensly intriguing and lovely toy for now and a great tool for the future. Above: screenshots from first real-time experiments with its depth sensor and vvvv.

In the process* of cataloguing all my image-but-mostly-photography related output from several years back. Whereas “output” includes any kind of snapping-results as well. A task which feels like digging a bottomless pit. However, some pictures surface which had previously slipped my attention. (* which is part of an even bigger process of things-to-do-before)

"There is no such thing as a neutral education process. Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate the integration of generations into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity to it, or it becomes the ‘practice of freedom’, the means by which men and women deal critically with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world."

I find myself quite surprised that I did not already post this. What - kind of - surprises me even more is, and very pleasantly: the album’s DVD, thus my contribution to the visuals (some of you might remember this half of it) is going to be shown at the Northern Jutland Artmuseum for 2 months, starting this Friday, April 23th at 19:30.

Gerry Badger: The Art That Hides Itself - Notes on...
"[...] More often than not, a direct, 'simple' record of the subject in hand - the way of the 'quiet' photographer - produces a result that is more profoundly fresh than any attempt at visual novelty made by utilizing the many tricks of the trade. If photography deals directly and honesty with life, it has every chance to be fresh and 'new', for the surface of life itself is infinitely variable, renewable and renewing. [...] The concreteness of photography, its awkward specificity, *must* surely be its glory, for can we ever tire of looking at a tree, the sky, a human face?
[...]'Thereness' is a sense of the subject's reality, a heightened sense of its physicality, etched sharply into the image. It is a sense that we are looking at the world directly, without mediation. Or rather, that something other than a mere photographer is mediating. [...] Such a feeling, such alertness, when present in the photograph, can of course conceal the greatest photographic art. 'Thereness' is seen at the opposite ends of the photographic spectra, in the humblest holiday enprint as much as the most serious art photograph, in the snapshot-inspired, dynamic small camera candid as much as the calm, meditative, large camera view. Those photographs which conjure up a compelling desire to touch the subject, to walk into the picture, to know the photographed person, display 'thereness'. Those photographs which tend towards impressionism, expressionism or abstraction can be in danger of losing it, or never finding it [...]. 'Thereness', in short, is a quality that has everything to do with reality and little to do with art, yet is, I would reiterate, the essence of the art of photography"
